In the present day, Bidriware finds itself a nurturing guardian of its secrets and skills in the hands of award winning master craftsman Shilpguru Mohammamed Abdul Rauf. Tracing back to a long lineage of expert craftsmen, M A Rauf has played a quintessential role in elevating Bidriware into a contemporary art form without compromising on the traditional and cultural relevance of the craft.His collaborations with modern designers, artists and institutions has pushed the boundaries of the 500 year old Bidri craft from the Deccan.
M A Rauf has been recognized and felicitated by two presidents of India and several high dignitaries of the Government of India, as he is lovingly and respectfully called by those that work with him, hails from a family that has given generations to the art of Bidriware, having trained at the tender age of 10 under the watchful eye of his father Master Craftsman Late Janab Shaik Ahmed.
From a very early age, he has developed great skills, along with a deep appreciation and passion for the craft. Rauf Sahab has been quite instrumental in reviving the interest in Bidriware around the world as an Ambassador of Bidriware and has travelled across continents demonstrating and exhibiting the craft form
In addition to continuing to work on heritage pieces like Hookah bases, Vases and Umar Qhayyam, MA Rauf has created several significant one-off masterpieces and art installations. His contemporary product interventions include a vast range of pieces - Wall tiles, Pen drive casings, Staplers, Handles, Letter openers, Stationary cases, Mirrors, Furniture, Bowls, Plates and so on. With his involvement in numerous state and National programs all over India, MA Rauf has also showcased and illustrated his Art-skills internationally
Beijing in 1992, Frankfurt in 2006 organized by the National Book Trust of India, Book Fair.
USA in 2007 Dubai in 2008 he represented Bidriware at the International Autumn Trade Fair,
Munich in 2010 at TENDENCE- Frankfurt in 2011 at TENDENCE at Messe Frankfurt- Trinidad and Tobago in 2012 Apart from working with some the biggest names in the Industry he has made championship Medals for the Common Wealth Games 2010. M A Rauf feels a deep concern to promote and flourish Bidriware for future generations.Apart from being an enthusiastic and positive force in the Bidri community, he is involved in various National and State programs to teach and educate young people, introducing them into the craft. He has led several training courses for design students as they have been developing their graduation projects.
